Darbhanga, the seat of the erstwhile royal family, is the cultural capital of Mithila. Rajnagar is another small town in Madhubani and has a collection of beautiful temples and ruins of a magnificient fort. Some of the well known temples in the region include Durga Mandir, Kali Mandir, Kamakhya Mandir, Naulakha Mandir, Girija Mandir, etc. The region is also famous for Madhubani artists at the Jitwarpur village, the village of Padma shree awardees like Jagdamba Devi, Sit Devi and Baoa Devi.
